Cristoph - 8-track [Knee Deep In Sound]

Up first in the new 8-track album series on Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep In Sound is fellow northerner Cristoph. Describing the idea behind the series Hot Since 82 said, “In a world of club singles and EPs, many artists don’t have the platform to fully explore their sound. 8-track gives the opportunity for artists I love and believe in to exhibit their production skills, create a mini masterpiece and take the listener on an all encompassing journey into their musical mind. A lot can be done in 8 tracks!” 

This release is Cristoph’s best work to date. Speaking to him two months ago for an in-depth on YoungOnesUK he said, “My idea would be to write a journey how I would play a set, maybe start a bit deeper, sit it down in the middle and then pick it up ending on something eutrophic.” The Geordie most certainly takes you on a journey; the album is laid out as a continuous mix and the full forty five minutes are most definitely worthy of a listen, though our picks are 'Rapture', 'Alone', and 'Perplexity.' Expect to hear all eight tracks played out a lot in the clubs, already this week a video has shown its face online of Adam Beyer and Maceo Plex playing “Alone.”

Ahead of the release of this album Hot Since 82 also said, “Cristoph is an artist I truly believe in, he’s been quietly working away, making absolute monsters in the studio over the past couple years and it felt only right for him to launch this new concept.” This release is a testament to those comments and really showcases Cristoph's style - we have no doubt Cristoph will continue on with this quality going forward and rising up and up!

Struction ‎– Gefüge [R&S Records]

This autumn welcomes R&S’ ninth release on their 2016 catalogue from allusive producer Struction. In all, it is superb, atmospheric break-beat techno – bass heavy with nostalgic sentiments of the former rave era.

The EP opens with 'Kreen', a chaotic warehouse filler washed with an array of pounding kicks and dreamy samples. Deep break downs build and attack with piercing breaks layered over heavy bass. 'Warrior' is another full-on warehouse track opening with intense highs. Its dreamy chord progression layered with clattering percussion makes this a real mood lifter. It’s spacey yet could well have been put out on Illian Tape.  

On the B side, the EP takes a slightly different turn with darker, more experimental tracks. The cloudy distortion and gentle breaks in 'Ai' express ‘post-rave’ nostalgia. Its warm pads, driving bass and atmospheric chords make it perfect for creating a 7am chugged-out stampede. Finally, 'Dolly' is the darkest track on the ep. The twisted acid bassline underlying fierce breaks and more sluggish bass has a very dystopian expression.

The EP has had mixed reviews, and although it may lack uniqueness in its reminiscent rave sounds, each track remains incredibly effective and is marked by ingenious production skills.

Kaiserdisco - Get Enough [Drumcode]

When genres collide. The latest release to come rolling out of the Drumcode techno factory is Kaiserdisco’s Torelanz EP, with the standout track being 'Get Enough'. The Hamburg duo have managed to merge techno with disco to create something a bit different, and boy is it good. The classic rolling disco synth is like something you’d hear from Norwegian royalty Todd Terje or Lindstrom, whilst the techno beat alone is enough to make you think you’re front left Berghain, or front right, depending on what you prefer. On the rest of the EP are two slightly harder Kaiserdisco tracks and one Pleasurekraft remix that are also worth checking out. In the meantime however, get this on REPEAT!

Two Door Cinema Club - Bad Decisions (Purple Disco Machine Remix) [Glassnote]

Purple Disco Machine's remix of 'Bad Decisions' by Two Door Cinema club is the perfect 'feel good' tune you are looking for right now. The German boogie master has proven his class once again with this sped up, funk driven spin on the Northern Irish bands new album, Gameshow. It sounds fresh as daisies and will have you skipping for the hills in joy and bouncing around as you hear star front man Alex Trimble's high end vocals, "I'm addicted to you, and I make bad decisions..." 

From the onset PDM makes his mark as joyous, 80's bass plays a definitive part in the build up and the luscious chords creep in. The pitched vocals are infectious and by the time the stretched out drop comes there is all kinds of flair as the dance floor bomb peaks. It promises exciting things as the producer, fresh off the back of a Space Ibiza residency for Glitterbox lines up his debut album, to be released early in 2017. Mouth-watering collaborations are promised with the likes of Faithless (he recently warmed up for them at Brixton Academy), Hercules and Love Affair, as well as Alex Metric and Aeroplane's new project, Metroplane. Voyeur - Patron Saint [Kaoz Theory]

This release is a house heads heaven! Voyeur, the up and coming house duo who have been under the watchful ear of the legend Kerri Chandler, have their debut album, entitled I released today on Kerri's label, Kaoz Theory.

'Patron Saint', which is co-produced by Kerri, is my pick from the album. Grabbing your attention from the first kick drum and padded out with soothing vocals this track is a top drawer 4/4 beat. 

Kerri has been supporting the London duo since 2012 when he snapped them up to release on his Madhouse and Madtech imprints. All because of their remix of Bombay Bicycle Club's 'How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep'.
