John Tejada – Live Rytm Trax [Palette Recordings]
As Palette Recordings proudly turns 22 years old, Vienna-born, Los Angeles raised electronic music producer and DJ, John Tejada releases its first release in two years. ‘Live Rytm Trax’ is an extended EP geared more towards his own style of DJing. The EP is more of a meditative exploration with tracks evolving and modulating but keeping a solid foundation in the groove.
‘Live Rytm Trax’ was recently conceived as Tejada’s new live PA focusing more or less on just one machine and making the most out of its limitations. After some live performances the idea was to capture the spontaneity of the pieces live and perform and capture them in a studio. Rather than use the all too familiar home studio, Kenny Larkin kindly offered up an invitation to record in his studio, the centrepiece being an API console. This provided the perfect opportunity to add a special sound signature to the songs providing a DAW-less production process using hardware instruments into analogue console recorded straight to a Tascam one-bit recorder. The result is a real time, organic experience with Tejada performing the pieces live with no overdubs or editing.
Takeleave - Inner Sea [Project Mooncircle]
Inner Sea is a journey inwards, delving into the hidden ocean of unconscious dreams and memories. Melodies tell stories of key moments, anchoring certain points in one’s life and the experiences and sensations they reflect. Giving them sounds to breathe and mirroring the soul in unseen depths, these memories are stored eternally in a shelter floating within this inner world. “All these memories lay in the depths of my inner sea. Its surface reflects pictures of all the worlds that I want to dive back into, over and over again.” – Takeleave - Nicolas De Araújo Peixoto.
FYI Chris - Songs About People’s Feelings [Toy Tonics]
Following releases on Rhythm Section, Church and West Friends, London based DJs, producers and record shop dons FYI Chris chose the German label Toy Tonics for their latest release.
The guys know what’s fresh in club culture. They have been store managers at one of London’s best record stores, Rye Wax, for the past two years and are becoming one of the most interesting names of the post-house scene in London. Their first encounter with Toy Tonics was through label boss Kapote. All three soon realised that they had a very similar vision of music and how dance music should develop... So what makes more sense than to make an EP together?
Marvin & Guy - Solar Warriors [Life & Death]
“We took some time away of from this world, beamed to the furthest reaches of the Solar System. We explored all that surrounded the imposing dwarf planet. The orbiting natural satellites stood out the most. Crystalline in matter, attracting our deepest inner desires - they never saw us coming. Thus we became Solar Warriors.”
Fresh off their much talked about performance at Life and Death’s hedonistic circus in Amsterdam, Marvin & Guy return with their second etching in the label’s stone – ‘Solar Warriors’. ‘Idra’, featuring Techno-Chanteuse, Perel, balances effervescent, nouveau-synth passages with a cosmic, spoken-word recital. Cut from similar silk, ‘Notte’ pushes further outwards, while peering deeper within. ‘Stige (9 am Mix)’ sees the duo complete their galactic revolution in fine form.
